It opened up a whole new way of seeing the world and myself and it's such a passion and a privilege to share my knowledge with other women so they can find their own way to enjoy life more and to feel as happy, fulfilled and successful as I do now!
It's no surprise that so many women struggle with their confidence when there's so many challenges to face.
Deeply entrenched gender bias shows up in everyday language such as the difference in the words used to describe similar personality traits in men and women.
Stereotypes and judgements in the media, in TV shows and films lead to women themselves perpetuating unconscious bias and rules by judging and comparing themselves to each other. All without much awareness that they’re even doing it.
Workplaces pay women less, offer them less promotions, resist flexible working and label women as suffering with imposter syndrome.
Expectations of institutions such as nurseries and schools mean it’s women that get the sick child calls and are encouraged to do all the unpaid work of fundraising and helping out despite all the other roles and responsibilities they’re trying to keep on top of
There’s a lot of gender inequality in society, and motherhood is truly feminism's unfinished business, as women are up against even more when they become a Mum.
Burnout, mental, physical and emotional health issues that stem from the stress, anxiety and overwhelm from managing the mental load of motherhood can lead to women doubting themselves more. Which further contributes to a woman's lack of confidence and can cause them to stay stuck and accept their lot rather than feel they are able to rise above it.
But we can choose to stop putting up with this deeply entrenched inequality and start rising above it!
We do this by:
Breaking our long held patterns of thinking and acting as we start becoming more aware of what’s holding us back from experiencing more equality and confidence
Creating OUR OWN new rules to live and work by which enable us to prioritise all the to do's, make decisions more easily, hold boundaries and find balance in our lives so we can have more fun, freedom and flow and take more time out without over thinking or feeling guilty
Talking to our families about roles, responsibilities and inequalities in and outside the home so we can find a way for “teamwork to make the dream work” rather than it be all on us Mums
Reinforcing WHO in fact needs to be on point for specific tasks or to be contacted, emailed, called when there’s a nursery, school, club or other institution calling home. By handing over whole tasks e.g. meal planning, swim club, to our partner we can start to share the load more. There's no facts to support one person/ gender is better at these things than men. We're just used to being expected to take these tasks on so we pick it up unconsciously.
