When Life Feels Hard: Do You Need a Mindset Shift, a Practical Change - or Both?

“I remember constantly saying, ‘Why is this so hard?!’”


That was me as a new mum, completely baffled by why I wasn’t breezing through motherhood with a smile and a tidy home.

Looking back, I know exactly why. And I now have the tools and the language to explain it - to myself and to others.

Because sometimes when life feels hard, what we really need is to reframe how we’re thinking about it.

And other times? We need to make real, practical change.

Often, it’s a little bit of both.

The Mental Load & the Myth of 'Having It All'


Back then, I didn’t realise I was carrying the invisible mental load of motherhood - all the planning, remembering, coordinating - wrapped up in a pretty bow of patriarchal expectations like:

  • Put your family first.

  • Don’t complain. Just be grateful.

  • Other mums seem to be managing…

But life shouldn’t feel this hard! And I’m so grateful I now understand why it did, and have the self-mastery tools to support myself - and now, so many of my clients - through those heavy seasons.

A Current Day in the Life
Fast forward to now: I’m juggling a poorly parent, a young puppy, birthday celebrations, book writing, and work/life balance. There’s so much love in my life. And there’s also overwhelm.


The truth is, after 4 months of puppy life, I’ve realised it’s not working for our family. Despite all my mindset work and attempts to reframe the challenge, what we really need now is a practical change. So we’re rehoming the gorgeous pup. It’s heart breaking - but it’s necessary.


We’re choosing simplification and human connection over chaos. And instead of walking a dog, we’ll be walking into fun all day family adventures, hand in hand with our girl leading the way. They'll be no watching the clock to get back for the pup!

You Don’t Have to Choose Between Thriving and Surviving
